Eureka Cafe
Saturday, 07-16-2011, Brunch
West Adams, Los Angeles, CA
http://eurekacafe.net/

Eureka Cafe is a small family-owned operation in the West Adams area of mid-city Los Angeles.  This part of town may not be known for its eats, but as a USC alumni and a current K-Town resident, I have at least been familiar with the area.  While looking for an interesting brunch spot, my friend stumbled upon this small cafe online with good reviews and thus we decided to give it a try.

CHAI TEA LATTE [$3.50]

VANILLA LATTE, ALMOND MILK [$4.00]

VEGGIE SCRAMBLE [$7.00]

THE TROJAN STACK [$12.00]
1 Red Velvet and 1 Gold Pancake Served with Lemon Pepper Chicken Wingettes

PAC-10 SANDWICH [$11.00]
Prime Rib, Lettuce, Red Onion, Tomato, Bacon, Eggs

VERDICT:
My friend found a pleasant surprise in family-operated Eureka Cafe.  The brunch items rivaled any well-known brunch spots in the city including Griddle Cafe, The Alcove, Square One Dining, Grub, and BLD while offering a competitive price.  The pancakes were thick and fluffy and the chicken wings were juicy yet crispy and well-flavored with lemon pepper.  The father ran the front-of-the-house, cash register, and outdoor BBQ while the wife commanded the kitchen.  The servers were young, friendly, and energetic.  The food was served on the slow side but the outdoor patio provides a traquil enviroment to spend some time chatting with good company.    There was a true sense of community at this restaurant--in fact, we were the only two people who didn't know everybody else there!  I'd be happy to try other items on the menu on my next visit.
